I thought you should know

All those long mornings last winter, writing Straight Into Gay America, not knowing its reception, just digging as deep as I dared to share life and experience. The sharing comes back.

PFLAG did a powerful writeup yesterday on Straight Into Gay America. Here it is if you have a moment to read it and pass it on to friends. Jody also wrote about the election of the new Episcopal bishop this week, Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori. What a breath of fresh air. Right on CNN, in one of her first public interviews, she says,
I believe that God creates us with different gifts. Each one of us comes into this world with a different collection of things that challenge us and things that give us joy and allow us to bless the world around us. Some people come into this world with affections ordered toward other people of the same gender and some people come into this world with affections directed at people of the other gender. Gay Into Straight America also did a writeup yesterday. These two women continue their amazing year-long journey to create authentic connections across the divide between straight. See Dotti and Roby's latest adventures.
This morning I opened email to find The Advocate Magazine has invited me to write an exclusive essay for them. Due next Tuesday. They did a wonderful pre-ride announcement last year before my tour, resulting in me meeting Clay, my New York City host last year and now good friend.
Oops, that last paragraph doesn't sound very dramatic. That's The Advocate Magazine, the biggest LGBT magazine in the country, giving me space for an exclusive 1000 word essay! I better finish this newsletter and get started composing for their Tuesday deadline.
Seattle Pride Parade: June is Pride Month, and in New York City they'll be having the Pride Parade that I rode in last summer and enjoyed so very, very much. This year, I'm riding local, but our whole family will be there. Anne will be carrying our Straight Into Gay America banner, and KariAnna and Kai will be unicycling figure-eights with me all through downtown Seattle. We'll be part of the Religious Coalition for Equality group. Maybe we'll see some of you there?
Straight Into Gay America Video Documentary: Turns out movie-making is a lot like book writing. Everything takes longer than expected. But...I meet with Jenny this week for a final audio session. She's worked those 90 hours of tape down to 90 minutes, and now to 65, and in the next week she'll try to squeeze 5 more minutes off the disc. Then its off to the Friday entry deadline for the Seattle Film Festival. Way to go Jenny. As she's said to me more than once, "I finish what I start."
So, that's a quick update. I admit to feeling a bit overwhelmed...but...hugely grateful for these days and this experience. Word from the printer is that all is well and coming along on schedule for the July 18th publication celebration with Soulforce in Colorado Springs.
Jody Huckaby said in his weekly update:
"[A-Page-A-Day] is one of the easiest ways I've heard of to create more GLBT equality conversations."

I appreciate all the conversation I'm part of these days. Thank you.
